The debut collection Versatile Elegance offers full ensembles catering to women of all ages looking to equip their wardrobe with ensembles of elegance and versatility for daily occasions. Versatile Elegance (VE), takes the guesswork out of choosing an attractive, modest outfit by offering selections of full ensembles coordinated for style and comfort. No longer is there a need to piece together your wardrobe to look stylish. This line has something for the young and the young at heart, bringing out the youthful elegance in the mature woman.
The designs, colors, fabrics and accents chosen for this line are done in a process that can only be described as a labor of love. We are making a statement that goes far beyond marketing apparel. We hope that through this work we can inspire you as the designer has been inspired – giving the best to make something beautiful.
Our apparel ensembles are original designs made to Nahid Fashions strict specifications. Our main concern is the quality and value of our products. With this in mind we have taken the time and have been very selective in choosing our manufacturing partners. We will impress you with the craftsmanship, attention to detail and precision of the workmanship. This is our key to developing a long and trusted relationship with our customers.
Nahid Fashions' produces its garments in small batches, not mass production. Some of the work such as embroidery and bead work are often done by hand. We are selective in choosing our fabrics for quality, availability and appropriateness to the style of the ensemble. From time to time, the precise fabric design (i.e. motif, print or pattern) is not available and thus may not exactly match the fabric design depicted on our web site. What we do is select fabrics that match the description of the ensemble so that the look, feel and style are not altered by a substitution of fabric design.
The designer
Naseem Nahid DeVoe is the creative talent behind Nahid Fashions' elegant apparel. 'Nahid' is the Persian word for Venus and represents beauty and elegance. This beauty is reflected in Naseem's creative work.
DeVoe has designed stage costumes and clothing for the music band DEBU for several years. But now, she has created her own line of apparel. "This is something that I've dreamed doing since I was a little girl. Many of my ideas and drawing that I have had for years are now coming to life."
This former midwife, now a wife, a mother of four and a musician in a Sufi music group (DEBU), has long since been disappointed by the selection of modest apparel available to the fashion conscious modern women. Growing up in the US, off-the-rack department store options just wouldn't do for her. They require too many extras or modification to make them work or they just didn't appeal her sense of modest elegant style. "I didn't like looking patched together in order to be halal. I got tired of wearing additional layers under something that I liked because it was short-sleeved or was cut inappropriately."
Because of this, DeVoe, as a young woman, often sought out traditional clothing from faraway places such as Pakistan, India, Turkey and Indonesia for solutions. "These solutions were not always readily available, and when they were, I tended to overdo it. The traditional clothing began to inundate my and my friends' wardrobe." So as a young mother, she began making her own outfits, borrowing from the traditional styles she liked. "Many of the traditional clothing that I used to wear had many good ideas but are limited by cultural traditions. I loved the clothing but after awhile I longed for something different, something that appealed to my own sense of style."
With Nahid Fashions, DeVoe now has her own line of apparel that she can share with others who looking for something new, beautiful and elegant.
DeVoe is a very dynamic person. In addition to traveling, rehearsing and performing with DEBU, she teaches children, studies Turkish, regularly cooks for her extended family, lifts weight three times a week, jogs every chance she gets and dutifully maintains her Myspace page.
Our social commitment
We are a socially and environmentally conscious apparel maker. Many of our manufacturing partners are cottage industry entrepreneurs in Indonesia that produce clothing without 'sweatshop' labor. We also strive to limit undesirable environmental effects of producing our fashion creations. With this in mind, we hope that our customers and distribution will value and share with us in this commitment.
